This is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a time that campaigns make us more aware of the cancer that has claimed the lives of many, yet with regular check-ups and the correct testing can often be prevented or at least minimised. We have written extensively on this and you need only visit our insights page to learn more.
Commencing on 28th October we also commemorate National Stroke Week, something just as important as strokes affect both men and women and according to the Department of Health, approximately 60 people die every day in our country as a result of strokes!
According to the department, ‘’Knowing the signs of a stroke and seeking immediate medical help can improve the outcome of the stroke. The symptoms appear suddenly and often there is more than one at a time.’’
To learn more about these symptoms, Stroke Week, and the preventative measures that can be taken go here – https://www.gov.za/news/events/health-awareness-events/stroke-week-0 – In essence, the prevention of strokes is about making good lifestyle choices, – i.e., don’t smoke or consume excessive alcohol, practice a healthy diet and exercise regularly etc.
